XP SP3 crashes AMD machines
Here we go loop de loo
THE LONG-AWAITED and much-delayed update to Windows XP, Service Pack 3, is giving owners of machines with AMD hardware headaches aplenty it seems.
The problems, which first arose just one day after the push, have been causing lots of noise on Microsoft support sites and angry user bogs.
One user reported, "I just installed Windows XP SP3 and after completing the processes and when the system reboots, the system cannot proceed to load the Windows. It just displays the flash screen of Windows then after it reboots again."
Angry users have also reported that, after the installation, it is not even possible to boot in safe mode, usually the last resort before setting up a r
Microsoft Expands Performance-Based Testing May 5, 2008 - Deanna Hartley
Microsoft is getting ready to introduce simulation questions, or performance-based testing, to more of its exams.
The company currently has five exams with a performance-based testing (PBT) component, with the sixth expected to hit the market within the next three months. Following that, many more PBT exams are expected to be introduced during the next 15 to 18 months. “We see [performance-based testing] as a major part of our program and reinforced in the exams that we release to the market,” said Rob Linsky, group product manager for IT pro and developer certification at Microsoft.
“In a performance-based testing environment, you actually have to use the technology to dem
Interop: Motorola Predicts End of Wired Enterprise Networks Deploying and running a wireless network would cost $232,000 the first year, while a similar wired network would cost $3.8 million, one company exec suggests.
Motorola says the advantages of a wireless LAN are sure to motivate enterprises in time to cut their wired networks.
Kathy Paladino, president of enterprise mobility at Motorola, told attendees of the Interop conference in Las Vegas, that emerging standards, such as 802.11n, will usher in wired-like speed, reliability, and security to wireless networks. Add to that the cost savings, and tossing the wired network becomes a compelling proposition.
"The question today is not why to cut the wires, but when," Paladi
Microsoft loses Vista Capable appeal Here we go again.....
Microsoft Corp.'s attempt to reverse a lower court's ruling in the ongoing "Vista Capable" lawsuit was denied by an appeals court on Monday. The decision means the case can resume.
It also means that new insider e-mails subpoenaed from Microsoft and nearly 30 other companies could be made public.
In a brief order dated April 21, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Microsoft's request to overturn a decision by U.S. District Court Judge Marsha Pechman in February that granted class-action status to a lawsuit that charges the company deceived consumers in 2006 with its Windows Vista Capable marketing program.
The year-old case alleges that many of the PCs l

After meeting with Shanghai government officials, John Chambers signed a strategic cooperation in Beijing with Peking University and he will also sign a series of memoranda of understanding with China's National Development and Reform Commission and Ministry of Commerce, which are all parts of the company's US$16 billion investment in China in the coming five years.
What's noteworthy is that John Chambers has also announced the establishment of a China Strategy Commission. This is the first time for a multinational technology company to do so in China.
According to the agreement signed with Peking University, Cisco will invest

"It will make a significant difference in my life, for sure," he added.

He had hoped that pizza.com would help to get a contract with a pizza firm for his consulting company. <
Microsoft gives Yahoo three weeks to do a deal
Microsoft on Saturday issued an ultimatum to Yahoo, giving the Internet search pioneer three weeks to enter formal merger negotiations and conclude a deal.
The software giant threatened to launch a proxy fight to unseat Yahoo's board of directors, as well as take its case straight to Yahoo investors should no deal be reached in that period.
And as a further cattle prod in getting a deal consummated, Microsoft threatened to lower its existing bid, citing how Yahoo's value will be hurt if it needs to resort to such hostile means.
"If we have not concluded an agreement within the next three weeks, we will be compelled to take our case directly to your shareholders, including
Gates: Windows 7 may come 'in the next year'
MIAMI--Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates on Friday indicated that Windows 7, the next major version of Windows, could come within the next year, far ahead of the development schedule previously indicated by the software maker.
In response to a question about Windows Vista, Gates, speaking before the Inter-American Development Bank here, said: "Sometime in the next year or so we will have a new version." Referring to Windows 7, the code name for the next full release of Windows client software, Gates said: "I'm super-enthused about what it will do in lots of ways."
Most of Gates' speech was devoted to topics closer to home for the crowd, such as how Latin America can be more
