Dear all

I have 1GB flash drive and I tried to format it using windows XP I am using. But windows said unable to format.

I could not copy any data into it.

But when I checked its properties, it was not RAW. It said it is FAT.

When I tried to format it from command line, it said Invalid media or track 0 is error. or something like that.

How could I format it to use. ??

regards
Real

See if it apperas in Disk Management in Computer Management. If it shows up then try reformatting it using FAT (not FAT 32) using Disk Management (which is found under Computer Management in Control Panel under Administrative Tools). Just make sure you don't reformat your Hard Drive. If it dowsn't show up then go to the manufacturers website and see if they have a driver or similar that will allow windows to see it.
You can visit this site for more help..

When I tried with HP format utility, it said "Disk is write protected".
I tried in disk management from device manager. it said "format did not complete successfully".
It is old usb disk, no label and no information of origin can be found.

with regards

The proper way to create the startup disk / install Ubuntu from a flash drive is to use the “usb-Creator Program” which is available in the Ubuntu iso program. And or you may visit to this site for more information about your problem, it may help you understand about it.
