You need to activate the server to be able to do anything, when you boot the server you are given the opportunity to change the procuct key and activate the license then you will be able to do all you need on the server.

Hmmm weird, as far as I remember you don't get a popup but when tyring to login you are taken to the activation screen where you can change the key, all services should be up and running so that should not be any disruption in that sense.

Cheers Lethe.

It maybe that the windows server 2003 is not an original version, as you said there is no pop ups for activating the key!
But for being sure about this you can try to change the password by using a Hiren's bootup CD and then see if you will get a popup window to activate it or not?

That's really weird. There isn't no popups coming when you trying to sign-in.

It maybe that the windows server 2003 is not an original version, as you said there is no pop ups for activating the key!

I think, this can be the issue here. Is it a genuine one?

Hi

I think this popup is dependant on the "help and support" service, from what I remember you can open a system prompt/ command shell on boot. once you are there try this and then reload.

1. Open a command prompt.
2. Navigate to %windir%\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries
3. Run this command:
start /w helpsvc /svchost netsvcs /regserver /install
4. Once this command completes the Help and Support service should now appear in services.msc
5. Start the Help and Support service

Also make sure you have not already used the activation key.

Let me know how you get on
