  9. I'm preparing my ccna and i have a serious confusion about applying Access-List, especially on which interface and inbound/outbound rule For example In 9tut: CCNA Access List Sim 2 http://www.9tut.com/78-ccna-access-list-sim-2/ why is that? i thought it was on f0/0 and in or is it because it's extended access list and should be put nearest to source (the LAN side) and why is it out?, not inbound, is it because that this ACL applied to the interface that face out (facing the out of the destination)? Can someone kindly enough tell me the rule about where to apply and the in/out ? I've read some articles and books and watch some videos (CBT Nuggets, Lammle) and tried to browse some explanation but still very confuse thank you in advace
  10. Just starting out on the CCNA path and am looking to set up a lab. Could anyone recommend which routers to purchase? Budget is extremely limited. A friend who is a CCNA advised purchasing a couple of 1721s. I was thinking of a couple of 1751s. Also, what additional cards would be required? I have ordered a couple of 2950T switches which I believe should be good enough. Any and all comments appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  12. Hi guys, I'm new here, so please bare with me if I'm asking stupid questions, I have tried to search the forum for this topic, I found few links but I get "driver error" when I try to open the links. So here comes the question: 1. What is the minimum good configuration required for a Lab ? I'm talking abut a fysical lab that I can buy from some websites that sale ready cisco ccna certification labs. I know it is possible to use simulation but I also know that the best way is to buy the lab put it next to your pc and start working with it while learning / reading ccna preparation stuff. 2. Has anybody any experiance where to buy ? what website has the best deals ? I found one, for 550$ with this below, Is this a good lab sothat I can pass the recent new CCNA tests ? cause I read that there is also WLAN part in CCNA ? or m I wrong ? just to make sure there is no misunderstanding here, I'm planning to do the normal default main CCNA I'm a starter in the Cisco certification, I'v worked with different cisco's over the years, but only basic stuff to support collegues at location, so things like put the box in the rack, login set an IP sothat CCIE collegues can login remotely and make all other stuff. So is this set below good enough to work with to pass CCNA ? Is the minimum met ? thanks in advance. any info / advice is much aprisiated. : Product Description "The CCNA" Complete CCENT & CCNA Cisco Certified Network Associate Lab Study KitThe CCNA Lab Training Kit Features: 12.4T IOS with Extended Memory for Advanced Feature Sets: Security Device Manager (Cisco's Web Configuration GUI) Easy VPN Server Advanced IPV6 Functions and IPV6 Routing (as now required by Cisco) Cisco Firewall Feature Set Call Manager Express (Cisco's VOIP Phone System) VOIP QOS (Quality of Service Features) Intrusion Detection System IEEE 802.1Q InterVLAN Routing and more... 3 Switches that will Conduct Proper Spanning Tree Elections - STP Device Election & Configuration - VTP Database Setup - 802.1Q InterVLAN Trunking & Routing 3 Routers that will Conduct Proper Routing Protocol Elections - RIPv1/v2 EIGRP OSPF BGP Device Election - Proper Path Costing - Multi-Protocol Networks Step by Step Cisco CCNA Training & Lab Setup Instructions The CCNA Lab Kit Includes the Following Items: Item Description Cisco 2600XM Multi-Protocol Multi-Function Router 128D/32F Memory 12.4T IOS SDM IPV6 / VOIP IOS / Security IOS Cisco 2610 Basic IP Router 1 Ethernet / 2 WIC Slot / 1 Network Module Slot Cisco 2610 Basic IP Router 1 Ethernet / 2 WIC Slot / 1 Network Module Slot WS-C2950-24 Advanced IOS 24 Port 10/100 Switch - Port Security / QOS / Rapid STP WS-C2950-24 Advanced IOS 24 Port 10/100 Switch - Port Security / QOS / Rapid STP WS-C2950-24 Enhanced IOS 24 Port 10/100 Switch - Port Security / QOS / Rapid STP 2 x WIC-1T DB60 Serial WAN Interface Cards - 2Mbps 4 x WIC-T1-DSU T-1 Serial WAN Interface Cards - 1.5Mbps Study Guide / Labs CD Based Labs, Tests, and Study Guides for the CCNP & CCIE CCNA CBTs Computer Based Training Videos Tech Tools 4 CD Set Simulators, Network Traffic Generators, Diagnostics, Security Wizards Cable - Serial WAN DB60 to DB60 Serial Crossover Cable - WAN Emulation Cable - Console Console Connector 2 x Cable - T1Crossover T1 WAN Crossover Cable 10 x Cable - Cat5 Category 5 Ethernet Patch Cables (8 Standard + 2 Crossovers) 6 x Cable - Power Power Cables Unlimited Email Support Technical or Study Assistance by a Cisco Certified Professional Directly

  17. Hello guys, I thought to trade thoughts with you guys. If one has an Associates degree + CCNA with a lot of help desk and desktop type experience, how does finishing college with a Bachelors degree in IT compare with going forward the cert route by obtaining a CCNP? Still at the beginning stages of trying to sort this out so figured to post it up here? Certainly welcome your thoughts.

  20. Hi, I've heard many said that VTP is dangerous if not used correctly (as a new switch can overwrite the VLAN database of the network or something). So should we have VTP disabled by default? Catherine
  21. Hi, this is my first post and I hope it is in an ok section of the forum. I recently went for a job interview and was asked to perform a technical test. I have a background in Wintel environments and am pretty good on Windows servers etc but am looking to move in to networking. I said up front that I have a CCNA but limited real world experience and that I didn't want to move on to CCNP level until I could get a job where I would be using it each day. Anyway, the test was a two-fold scenario in which I had 1 hour to do the following: Scenario 1: On a Cisco ASA 5505, set up an IPSEC VPN tunnel using settings they provided. Scenario 2: Using 2 x 800 series routers, configure a VLAN setup such that two laptops could communicate. Each laptop would be plugged into its own 800 series router and would be on a different network, e.g. 10.1.1.0/24 and 10.2.2.0/24 and a cable would connect the two. DHCP must be configured on both routers. I did miserably on both counts for lots of reasons, all of which will sound like excuses at this stage, but most importantly I would like to know where I went wrong so I can learn for the future. Ok so scenario 1, I started trying to use the CLI for the IPSEC tunnel but having never done this on a Cisco I struggled and moved over to the ASDM. I found the section where I could configure a tunnel and inputted the settings as I thought were correct but the tunnel didn't build. I later heard that there is an easyVPN that I could have used. I saved the config and pinged a host on the destination subnet, but nothing. I only had an hour so I moved on. Scenario 2, I named the routers so that I wouldn't confuse them, I setup the IP addresses and got DHCP working but I couldn't ping between the two. My mind went blank and then I figured it was a routing issue so I created a static route on each router, still nothing. Times up, the hour had flown by and couldn't get it working. On the way home I thought about it and figured I needed a trunk link between the two routers and perhaps to create a VTP domain. I didn't get the job as they said I 'comprehensively' failed the technical tests, the word comprehensively has hit my ego like a sledgehammer as in the Windows world I am used to being an authority. I was surprised as I said up front I am weak on Cisco and keen to learn yet they still invited me to a 4 hour round trip and 3 hour interview. An hour to do all that seemed really short but perhaps the time pressure was part of the test, I'm not sure... Anyway, can anyone tell me how I should have set up both of these and speculate where I went wrong as they wouldn't go into detail with their feedback. Thanks in advance. Jamie

  23. I need all the help I can get on this one.I have been a practising nurse for the past 15years during which I have been able to study part-time for a Computing HNC.I would like to go on and do the CCNA which I intend to use to enter networking. I would benefit from a network support technician apprenticeship but as a result my current financial commitments I cannot not drop the nursing and go full time as a network support technician. Are there any part-time network technician apprenticeships out there ? I am not particularly concerned about how much I will be paid as a network support technician so long as I get the opportunity to work in an IT enviroment as I prepare for the CCNA.I am worried that without work experience in an IT enviroment I will have trouble getting a job when I get the CCNA. I welcome any advise on how I can make the transition into IT.
