Hello all,

as per subjet I need to implement an SMTP proxy box on Linux which will be used as SMTP relay for Exchange 2007 box in the internal network, I'm trying to achieve this as I need to implement ASSP antispam and doing that under windows is not an option for some budget constraints.

Now even being a linux power user I don't have a specific experience with mail MTAs so I was wondering if anyone has an experience with this or could point me out to FAQ or how to, I'm going to timplement the solution on a Debian or CentOS box as these are the two distros I'm familiar with but I'm open to any suggestion :)

Basically what I need is something as easy as possible to implement and to maintain, so I would like to avoid qmail or sendmail for obvious reasons eheheh

You can use Postfix, as you don't want to use qmail and sendmail.

I have worked on qmail and configured it with the help of qmailrocks.org , not too much experience in postfix.

you can reffer postfix.org for configuration and after configuration if you face any error in postfix we can troubshoot.

EXIM combined with spamassasin seems to work well.

Cheers

Thanks to both of you, yes Mark I know Spamassassin but trust me it is nothing compared to ASSP but I'll consider that as well.

I said no to qmail because last time I had to deal with it I lot 90% of my hair :P But well after all I'm a MS Systems engineer condition madee worst by the fact I'm a trainer too!!!

I'll try qmailrocks site and see if it can help me out, after all I need a very simply smtp server doing the realy prolly I'll be able to make it work ^^

thanks and I'll let you, if you have any other suggestion keep them coming!

Hi

Honestly have a look at hxxp://www.exim.org/ its quite easy to configure and it's equal too if not better than most on the market.

Thanks Mark, as usual I did not explain myself the way I wanted... what I meant is ASSP is far way better than spamassassin, I'll look into exim though ^^ This could make my life even easier as it is the default MTA on Deabin etch ^^

Thanks to you too MCT I'll check that one as well as I don't anything about it.

I need something easy to maintain as I won't be the person doing that so you can imagine the less problems I'll have in the future the better :P

Well solved the problem using postfix and ASSP with ClamAV integration, I have to admit I'm impressed with ASSP results as spma is simply disappeared.

I'll blog about this soon as I really liked the solution and learned a lot in the process :)

Thanks for your support guys, Lethe.
