Need help with this please

Vista loads to the desktop lasts about 10 seconds then restarts. As far as I know it is not as a result of windows update.

It does the same in safe mode, loads to the desktop lasts 10 seconds or so then restarts, does the same in VGA Mode.

Its not a heat issue because you can boot into the diagnostic tools in vista and it will stay up as long as you want, if it was faulty psu or a heat issue I think it would restart or switch off

It may be a virus/spyware the reason I think that is there are no restore points, system restore is on by default in vista and my client would not know how to turn it off.

Can anyone give me some help or comments before I put this back to factory defaults

Thanks

Michael

Check to see if they installed any new applications. Check the system error logs to see whats going on. Disconnect any or all USB devices, it very well be a bad hardware driver.

are you getting a blue screen at all? if you are, try and disable automatic restart so you can see what the blue screen says. I know you only have about 10 seconds befor it restarts but give it a go :)

how to disable autorestart ?

Hi .

1) Click Start
2) Click on Run
3) Type in "sysdm.cpl" (without the quotes) and press Enter
4) Click on the Advanced tab
5) Click on the Startup and Recovery Settings button
6) Uncheck 'Automatically restart', then click on OK
7) Click on OK to exit the System applet, then close the Control Panel.
8) Reboot for the changes to take effect
NOTE: There is an option to do this when your system reboots into menu that allows you to choose Safe Mode (if you have SP2 installed...) - just scroll down the list and you'll see it.

I love that trick :

DISABLE AUTOMATIC RESTART:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\CrashControl]
"AutoReboot"=dword:00000000

ENABLE AUTOMATIC RESTART:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\CrashControl]
"AutoReboot"=dword:00000001

Good luck ,
