Hii guys,

I started to buy stuffs for create my own lab. First of all, i wanna say which devices i ve already got;

5 x 2610
1 x 2611
1 x 2522 for FRS

I know i should buy more devices.

Could you look at my file which i ve uploaded. There are 8 connections with frame relay cloud. So should i buy 16 cables in total ?
Or are there any another way to do this?

thanks friends

i suggest

2x2811
2x2620
2x1841
2x3640
2x2501 or 2620
4x3560 Switches
1x2511 Access Server

this way you will have Mixture of IVR Routers with older models not very expensive but very effective Collection of Devices

1. You only need 8 cables the switch itself will provide switching (kinda like ethernet in this reference) to all other devices on the Frame Switch.

2. 2600 and 2611 are fine for INE. Be aware that later versions of features and newer features will/might require newer devices - note: 3640's are awesome, cheap, and support the latest code too. When they fallow out the 3662 are as cheap or cheaper, and have 2 FE onboard, and will support up to 512MB DRAM and very likely be supported all the way into IOS 15.x.x

3. You are doing fine. You can do a ton with what you have. The most important thing is to just get started labbing asap.

4. I did not see switches. You can use a hubs or dumb cheap switches if you don't have real Cisco switches yet and ESW's are out of the question - or just get a 2900XL or 2950 and learn to use vlans when you get started. You can use routers for the L3 part of the switching until you get the hang of things and have more budget.

If all else fails contact me to use one of my racks for switches. It's free and will be as long as I can afford it.

That's the right cables - Dantrak or Anthony Panda - I've bought tons from both.

Anytime.

You'd be surprised how much I've learned about cabling electricity, and even power cables since I started building my labs and now my home network.

I don't think the people using simulators realize how much of the process they stand to lose all the time.

@ talent.pk

is it not enough to study with 3550s?
I suppose, 3550s are L3 switches. Please inform me about this ..

thx friends

Umm...

I ditched the 3560's in favor of 3550's - least till prices come down a lot.

The 3550's are pretty solid L3 switches.

Someone should get specific what can't be configured on the 3550 and is probably on the lab exam.

Suppose for instance you take a CCIE Lab and you have 20 lab tasks...

1. VTP Domain name and password

2. VTP mode

3. VTP Pruning | Not Pruning

4. VTP password and/or update source and/or version

5. Create some vlans

6. Create some SVIs

7. Assign some interfaces to some vlans

8. Create some port channels - one of the types available

9. Trunk some interfaces

10. Create a banner of one type or another

11. Maybe you need need UDLD or you don't... agresssive or not

12. Maybe you need SSH or maybe you don't

13. Maybe you need Cat QoS trust or you don't

14. Maybe you need to modify the CoS or DSCP tables or mix and match and maybe you don't

15. Maybe you need to configure port security

16. Maybe you need to control or suppress broadcast/multicast - maybe you don't

17. Maybe you need to troubleshoot DTP or perhaps not.

18. Maybe you need to specify a primary root or not or secondary root

19. Maybe you need loopguard, root guard, bpduguard/bpdufilter or even portfast - each one could be worth 1-2 points or a set could be worth 2-3 points

20. Maybe you nees span or rspan or perhaps not - maybe you need to configure options

21. Maybe you need to configure WCCP or DHCP on the switch - maybe not.

22. Ever had to configure a native or voice vlan?

23. HSRP is an L2 switching topic and it has features.

24. So does VRRP, IP SLA, and GLBP protocol.

25. VACL any one?

26. Subinterfaces or bridging perhaps?

27. Hell speed and duplex might be required and while we are at it what about spoofing the interface?

28. Ever had to specify a particular mac-address for something?

29. Ever had to apply a QoS policy to a switch?

30.Ever had to configure SNMP on a switch, syslog, timestamps, various other features - even IPV6?

I could go on but I'd digress...

You see the 3550 are quite functional for any CCIE Lab and chances are they are yet to be outdated despite the price drops...

Kinda kewl really.

Anyway - My home has about 10 of them in my racks at the moment. So I still believe in them...

How bout anyone else?

Q-in-Q? but yes it is a pretty poor reason for getting 3560 anyway, I'd stick with 3550 too.

Hi Guys,

Have been in a bit of a mental jugglery about the hardware platform to buy for my R&S lab study.

Hope to use INE and Narbik workbooks. Looking at INE LAB spec, they have mentioned 3 1841s and 2 2611XM and 1 2610XM. (The backbone routers + switches are ok)

Is it ok to go ahead with using just the 2611XMs with max DRAM/FLASH or is using the 1841 going to giving any more functionality? The only reason I am planning to scale down is price difference in using 2611XM compared to 3 1841s.

Will I need the 1841s for something very specific in the scenarios?

I plan to buy a FR Switch (probably 2522 or even use one of the 7500 I already have with me with an 8 Port card). The only reason for spending some money on a FR switch would be to save on electricity cost of running a 7500 and the noise and heat it generates.

I have the switches and some 2500s which I will use for the backbone routers.

Can I request the forum to please comment on my lab and guide me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance
