Dear Team,

I have Samsung DVD-RAM GSA-H55N dvd writer. It was working fine but now its able to read only CD's and if I insert any DVD it is not able to detect
and I am not able to read any data??? What would be the reason?? I have done the following troubleshooting

1)tried to change the Region to Region1 united States as I read in some article. But no use
2)Tried uninstalling the drive and rebooted the pc it automatically detected the DVD RAM but then too same problem.

There is no chance of any virus or malwares as I have formatted my PC and installed OS freshly.

Please suggest.

maybe the driver is missing.
If u have burned dvd's at higher speed they will simply no be readable.
or if u have use m$ dvd burning utility ot will be unreadable b'coz it writes
in different format(UDF) try daemon tools/isobuster to read your cd/dvd's

Hi Bluefin,

I dont think I have writen DVD with High Speed I usually use 4x to write a DVD.
Since I did not have Nero I used 2 softwares to Burn CD and DVD.
1) ISO Image Burner - Which is a small tool used to burn iso image directly to CD or DVD.
2)Free Image Burner- Thats a small tool which has 75% of the nero features but a small program.

Do you come to say This would have affected my Drive???
I tried to read my DVD with Daemon Tools no use again.
Please suggest some other way...
Also I would be happy if you can find the driver for my LG DVD-RAM GSA-H55N model.

Sometimes DVD drives just die...

CD and DVD uses 2 diferent lenght lasers. Maybe the DVD's laser LED has failed.

Anyway, DVD drives are cheap these days...

Have you tried to clean the lens ?

I have an ASUS CD writer, sometimes it does not detect the CDs even for bootup purpose at the beginning of the system. As it is not under guarantee any more (it is manufactured in 2001) so I just opened it and cleaned the lens, and now it is working well...

Some times there is no need to open it, just try to use the lens cleaner Kits .

But I think it is not advisable to open DVD writers,SMPS and monitor???

If it is not that much harmful then I can try opening and cleaning the Lens

Tried Lens cleaning programs but no use.......

If you have done everything that the guys say above then it's time to borrow a DVD reader / writer from a friend and see if that works in your PC .. if it does then I suggest that you replace your old drive with a new one .. they really are quite cheap these days .. unfortunately you may not live in a country where that might be true, however there is not a lot than can be done to a faulty drive.

Yup your right but my concern earlier was how was CD getting Detected and Read but unable to read a DVD.
In some site I found that if we change the Region to1 in the properties it may work. But even checked that too no progress.
Fine I think its time to replace my Drive.
Thanks for all your replies.

Am closing the topic as it is an accepted solution.

Syed Abbas
