i will highly appreciate if somebody could let me know how can i connect these three networks so that if my ethernet/ fiber optic connection fails than computer on networks can still communcate via wireless link (i mean if ethernet/fiber optic fails then wireless link should automatically be established

for this purpose

Just add a static with a higher cost, if your primary fails your IGP should recalculate and use the static.

Or you could just plug-in/un-plug the cable when the main network fails. that's a common method if you dynamic routing is too hard.

Dear Forbiddenforest,

This is a very common scenario. There is one thing you didnt mention, your links are layer 2 (leased line) or layer 3(different subnet on each end).

You can either use routers (Cisco, Juniper) and

1) If your links are layer 2, run any IGP and set the metric properly so that, one link gets primary and other gets backup.

2) If your links are layer 3, configure GRE tunnels, and run IGP over them, set the metric properly so that, one link gets primary and other gets backup.

If you dont want to buy routers just for doing that, there is an open source project going on, Vyatta. I have never tried it but it supports GRE and OSPF. You can use any unused PCs and run vyatta over it.

thanks to all guys for reply
i have attached the scenario for my topology i want to connect my three locations with router basically i have fiber optic as wired media and redundant link is wireless as back up
how should i connect my these three location using fiber optic
i have proposed my solution
router>>>>core switch>>> 3 access switches that are placed in three buildings

i will highly appreciate if somebody provide me batter solution than above one

i also want to connect my three buildings using wireless link as backup link so that if fiber link fails i can use wireless link.

how can i connect my these buildings using wireless link (what devices i needed for wireless connectivity)
how can i connect my wireless link to my router and configure my router if my fiber link fail than router can automaticaly switch to wireless network
i will highly appreciate if somebody let me know other divce that can be use instead of router.

Hi

Why do you not connect your sites in a ring rather than hub and spoke? What distances are there between the buildings?

Hi

Wireless would be difficult as its basically a line of sight technology and 25km pretty much out of bounds, if I remember correctly about 5 or 6km is the limit. Your ideal solution is to have three links A>B>C>A which would be resilient in the event of one link going down.

Simple IGP such as OSPF and that topology you would be up and running.

Because of the details below and the 20km distance you quoted the answer is that you cannot do it, go to your ISP and ask for their recommendations and then based on cost and feasability make your choice.

you may consider LTE 3GPP (depending on your location) as backup , in US check with verizon or others

cisco is addopting LTE for ISR G2 routers, check this out
