Spent the last couple of weeks working across Canada, starting in Halifax and working my way over to Edmonton, seen all the big cities in between, Moncton, Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, and Calgary, and yes I was very disappointed not to be going to Vancouver, the best Canadian City. So seeing all this kinda got me thinking, things look pretty good here, jobs, pay ect, even talking with the locals things were good! The crazy thing was that it’s been about 8 years since I’ve been to Saskatoon, and damn things have changed, the city finally joined the late 20th century!!! No seriously just wondering what different peoples perspective is on their local economy?

Canada: ok
USA: sucks!!!

In Pakistan the economy is getting down rapidly and the business are going down as well. Imagine after every 1 or 2 hours the electricity load shedding happens for next 1 hour or more so total almost 6hrs to 8hrs per day electricity load shedding in cities and 2X times in the villages. To be honest i am more worry about students who can not study properly in their homes due to this damn electricity black out .

A decade ago when CNG officially had introduced here so everyone installed CNG kits in their cars but right now the situation is getting from bad to worst because gov started gas load-shedding and for load management purposes ,not properly supplying gas to CNG stations which results in 1 or 2 days per week without CNG gas.

The situation of water supply, public transport, hospitals and rest all gov departments etc is same as mentioned above.

An average salary for high qualified (electronics/electrical/Civil/Telecom/IT) Engineer is ranging between 250$ up to 500$ per month and in gov sector the salary is pretty much low like 200$ to 300$ per month . The petrol price is 1$ per Liter which is gonna be continuously increase 5% to 10% after every 2 or 3 months.

Recently we got a gift from our Government of fuel price hike. Now its about $1.5/L, And before 21 Dec 2012 it may reach 2.5 to $3/L.

So we don't have fear of 21 Dec. Because thats looking better solution.

Rest of all, Almost same as Faisal said.

we are still doing good here in Europe. Unfortunately it looks as the communists are going to win the next elections. So I'll be looking move abroad. I still do not know where. Germany has the greens, Austria not much different, Slovakia already has communists back (they just don't call themself commies any more). So I dont know australia, nz?
Other than that the life is okay here petrol is $2/l and considering average gross income of $1000 that after taxes leaves you with something like $700.

Maybe just reporting how's the situation without involving politcs would be enough? I don't see much added value in bad mouthing this or that politic credo.

I agree with Faisal. Our country is going through the worst times of its history. No law, corruption everywhere, from lowest level to highest, everyone trying the cut others.

We have lost our goal, identity, purpose of life. Dont want to start another debate, but our religion has clearly defined what we should live for, but currently, just look at the ppl around here ? see the youngsters ? they have but one goal in common, get the girl, get the money. Thats it. Miserable here

Note: My apologies to female members here for my above statement. Pls dont be offensive since i was just explaining the thinking that i face every day of ppl around me and the ones that are swarmed by our pathetic media.

That's right I belong to the same country which Faisal and Pappyar are talking about. though i live abroad not in Pakistan. Things are getting worst and I don't blame anyone except our own Government. Our country is a great piece of land it is rich in Gold, Copper, Coal, Gas, Oil, Uranium, Salt and its Soil is ideal for agriculture. Our country is positioned on a world map where it borders with other great countries like IRAN, CHINA , INDIA , AFGHANISTAN, we have ARABIAN SEA It can be a great TRADING HUB if they develop Sea Ports. and this can really turn pakistan wheel of fortune downside up.
The economy can bloom, jobs market will open, International Traders will start investing in pakistan. and bla bla
but luck is hard on us and we are victimized by our own corrupt leaders as they have left no way to let this GOLDEN ship sink.

Regarding Pakistan, the biggest fear of multinationals is their staff and property getting blown up on a regularly basis, hence investors are cautious when it comes to dealing with Pakistan.

Anyway sorry if i seem negative.

Yes here the price of $ increased 2X as compared to 10 years ago and the price of GOLD increased almost 9X or 10X.

Can anyone explain here that how to check the local economy, i mean by comparing which standards/values?

And also i wants to know the reality behind gold prices. I heard that China is continuously buying/collecting gold from rest all world, is that true?

Dear Talent,

My apologies if it seems i offended you :-) but atleast there are no CCIE level jobs in Karachi. Atleast not publically announced. The conditions are worst. No one is able to make a career move, since there are no more any career oriented jobs left.

We are currently dealing with IBM for our blade center and ASR/NAM project. 2 different guys of IBM from different departments were very much depressed. No increments nothing. Whether you like it or not, almost all the Solution providers are driving to survive thats all.

I dont have any idea of telecom sector, but again, may be jobs are internal and not published.

Petrol $1.50AUD/litre here in Sydney, things are stable in Australia, maybe just a bit more expensive than what was 4 years ago, but this is as far as I can tell. Prices went up to 10% on major services, such as lodging, transportation, rent. Food prices are the highest in the region, but still stable. People seem to aford things that I can only dream about. Workwise, there are always jobs, it is just not always easy to get the one you want.
