Hi,
I am trying to redistribute a routing protocol in another routing protocol, RIPv2 in EIGRP or OSPF.
I have a network with a lot of routers which a splitted in 3 subnetworks, in every subnetwork I am running a different routing protocol, RIPv2, EIGRP and OSPF.
Now I have a router conected to all the 3 subnetworks, on this router I am running all the 3 routing protocols.Now I am trying to make all the routers in the big network to see eachother.I managed to redistribute OSPF in EIGRP and now I have a ping and route between the 2 subnetworks with OSPF and EIGRP but I don't manage to redistribute RIPv2 in EIGRP.
If anyone have some ideas please let me know, thanks

I don't see your attachement anywhere.
The redistribution is mostly a dual direction process. If you are redistributing the OSPF routes into the EIGRP domain, then you must also redistribute the EIGRP domians' routes into the OSPF. Like wise you will have to the same dual redistribution between the OSPF and RIPv2. Also the same dual redistribution would be required between the RIPv2 and EIGRP.

A mutual redistribution is a must for end to end connectivity otherwise routes have no return path if one way redistribution is done

Tip:

Oh yah one more thing! make sure you add the keyword subnet when you redistribute RIP routes into OSPF. otherwise Only default class network will be redistributed into OSPF lacking detailed subnetted routes information
make sure to enable version 2 command.

Additional Tip : Make sure you use Distribute list when redistributing RIP to OSPF and vise versa to block the routes from learning back into originating domain to avoid routing loops. If Redistribution not done properly, can cause Routing Loops as local routes might route back from a different domain as either RIP or OSPF ones

• I managed to make all the routers to see each other, I deconfigurate RIPv2 from the border router, and between the border router and the last router from RIPv2 topology I added a default route, is not quite scalable but it works.
• @talent pk : can you tell me what is about distribute list ?

Note that "redistribution" is done by the Administrator with great care.

"distribution list" is way of announcing routes based on the a specific filter. This is like a guard checking people at the cinema hall. He must allow those with valid coupon and reject that don't have. This is bit advanced concept. A similar and bit easier approach is ACL in the CCNA stuff.

As far as CCNA goes, don't worry about distribution lists.

I think the commands you are looking for are:

For EIGRP

Router# config t
Router(config)# router eigrp 1
Router(config-router)# redistribute rip

For OSPF

Router# config t
Router(config)# router ospf 1
Router(config-router)# redistribute rip

Thats it. You also use the same command to redistribute default static routes if you happen to have those too.

That will make it so you can use multiple routing protocols on 1 router.

As far as the routing loops go, OSPF and EIGRP are smart enough so they know potential loops. It would be RIPv2 you have to watch out for.
