Blocking Porno Sites.

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know how to block porno sites from downloading software on your compnuter or making a lot of pop-ups or restarting your computer. Sometimes I just serach for info on Yahoo and click on a link and for some reason it takes my to some porno site and pop-ups and exe installers start to come up and can't get rid of them. Is there one or 2 good software that can prevent this? I use IE and Firefox browsers and IE seems to do it more often.

I haven't seen any site till yet, who dare to pop a popup in front of firefox. I would suggest using Spybot S&D with firefox.

Get firefox

http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

Get Spybot S&D

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

I also suggest you using a good firewall like Kario Personal firewall or if you are new to firewalls use ZoneAlarm.

Good Luck

Does anyone know how to block porno sites from downloading software on your compnuter or making a lot of pop-ups or restarting your computer.

Just install Windows XP SP2 and use Tools->Pop Up Blocker and Tools->Manage Add-ons. These little Sp2 add-ons provide more help than you can imagine. (If you get how they work, of course).

I am not just talking about pop-ups I am also talking about the exe dialars, viruses and spyware you get from these sites. Isn't there a way to stop those exe dialers, viruses and spyware before they attack your computer?

Most of these viruses and dialers come through holes which Microsoft patches regularly, so update your Windows and use antivirus software. However, if you know how to use add-ons manager, then most of those dialers won't be able to get onto your computer. (If you know how to manage it, of course).

Unfortunately there's no way to block all porno sites. If you have a 100% definitve list, it will be out of date in 1 hour.

If you want to get technical on it, you'll have to enter the debate on what actually constitutes porn too. One man's porn may be another mans legitmate holiday pictures.

I think the best you'll be able to do is pay somebody else to do the best job they can....i.e. a web/mail filtering software solution.

I understand what you are saying I do have firefox browser and spybot, but some sites direct you to some unusually pop-ups which you can't get rid of and some sites have viruses that you can not remove with Norton or McCafee. I have Gaurdian Antivirus and it is much better and gets rids of more viruses then the 2 programs I mentioned above. But is there a program that stops these pop-ups and viruses or redirecting BEFORE I get them?

I also have firewall from Microsoft and a router, and they are good but still I get shit.

Go to download.com and get the free version of Zone alarm.

If you want an actual CD of the software, note that stores usually drop the price of the previous years version by 9o% to clear old stock just before the new one ships.

If you use IE, use Zone Alarm in addition to a pop-up blocker (Many are also available free at download.com)

With Firefox, the pop-up blocker is not really needed.

If you have hi speed access, get a router to use as an extra firewall .

Prices have dropped so much , they are cheap insurance.

I side with what most of the folks here are telling, U should get a Good AV and Spyware removal software like AD-Aware by Lavasoft. Also, you should get a good content filtering application. There are many products that provide this combined security like

Symantec's Norton Internet Security (AV+FIREWALL+SPAM FILTERING+CONTENT FILTERING+PRIVACY PROTECTION),

CA's EZ Armour Trust with the above features

You could try prontowall or load the spyware/dialers list into your existing firewall

prontowall is a type of firewall that will black any NDIS protocol based upon its source Ip address they recomend you use it as well as your normal firewall what its for is it will quite happly check each packet in and out if you like against a very big list of blocked ip address if you try to do this in your hosts file or most personal firewalls you get big problems or atleast poor performance a separate product Blocklist manager does the job of updating your chosen level of risk types to block and formats the file for your firewall or prontowall. The lists they maintain are impressive and it there lists that are used by the safepeer plugins for bittorrent clients

I just downloaded Zone labs Zone Alarm Pro and it's amazing and I also download Zone Labs IM Secure Pro and it works for Yahoo messenger, MSN, ICQ or AOL IM. Let me know if you want the programs I can send them to you or you can just download them with serial number and I can show you how an which sites to download them from. It works great, however if you're running a server on your computer then it is not good because the program keeps interupting your server (unless you disable it or close the program for the time being). The pro version is a too advanced for begginers to configure you have to know what you are doing otherwise you won't get on the net.

If you need to block sites in a LAn you can use SurfControl. I am using this and it's pretty effective. You can castomise it meeting your needs. Cna control the downloads, file types and almost anything, you can set a messaging service which send you and e-mail when a computer/user tries to access a restricted site. you can even customise the warning page which is displayed instead of the blocked site on teh users' screen.

very good tool for a network environment. Can be used by WebCafes or similar services.

The registration enables frequent updates of the URL listing.

I recommend U stop visiting porno sites :) and you're OK with it. I'm not using anti-spyware, and I'm careful at what sites I visit. Never visiting porno and cracks sites, and never been infected by safe browsing :) Use the net in the HOLY way :) and youre okay.

You can go for Norten internet security like firewalls.. it can define different levels of security..

And many like tools are available but before using the tools please check for the commends about it. As most of the Antspywere is the cause for spreading Spy software and making harm to the system.. its with the case of most prono sites...
