Hello Cisco lovers :)

got good news for you

After i succesfully managed last year to run a full CCIE R&S Lab (On a PC) that i published on Hacki Forum, Today me and my study partner "Mark Davis" Managed to run a Full CCIE Voice Lab running on a PC using Dynamips, IP Blue Phone, Cisco Call Manager, Cisco Unity and VMware.

Darby was the first one to know as he called when i was jumping and Dancing

With this lab you will be able to cover 70% of the CCIE Voice Lab requirments.

The Lab will match ( hopefully :) )the new CCIE Voice Training from the best Company Training in the marketing right now; YES YOU GUESSED IT ==========> Internetwork Expert <==========

The lab will consist of:

6 IP Phones
CCM
Unity
2 windows XP Machines
2 Windows 2000 server
4 Routers (HQ, Remote Site1, Remot Site2 and PSTN Simulation)
2 Frame Relay Clouds.

you can run this Lab on One PC (High End) or you can creat 2 Dynamips Instences.

Here is some Pics for the Lab

The stuff you cant do on this Lab will be Non-Core stuff, so you dont have to worry about it, its easy and straightforward to do.

Everything else is doable on this Lab :)

Hi, I saw the link on the other post, is it the same procedure to build the VMware/Dynamips/Dynagen Voice Lab???

I ask because at the link the recomendation is for 3 VMWARE

1 CCM/IPCC
1 Unity
1 Client Machine with 3 NIC

Then if there is any difference could you post it to see it?

Thanks in advanced.

PS: I want to see the procedure for unity on VMware any link point me in that matter would be nice, I've have CCM and IPCC running over a VMware but never tried Unity on it

Thanks for knowledge sharing

Yes i will post the final config and the How to for this Lab and for other CCVP Labs, so u wont spend too much money on this.

The point is am having my CCIE R&S very very soon, which eats up all my time.

Another point is am trying to figure out what vendor this lab will be based on, most likely it will be based on Internetwork Expert CCIE Voice Training, this is my habit :) to do dynamips labs for Internetwork Expert Training.

So its done by my side, but it wont be completely out soon, am working on passing my CCIE R&S soon.

Wish me good luck folks.

:)

I advanced with vmware part on this portable CCIE-V Lab.

As far I'm the best performance is with the virtual machine using the actual RAM on PC. On the other hand I buy an external disk (WD My Book 500G 7200RPM) with eSATA interface and a PCMCIA eSATA Card and Cable (PNY) to my Dell Latitude D630 2G Centrino (I've ordered an upgrade to 4G and is coming to boost the performance). The reason is to isolate the OS disk from Vmware disk. Yes you may say that I lost some portability but the real thing is when you are labbing you will be in a place for at least 4 hours, and the disk is external and so you can take with you with a little weight on your backpack.

The other thing has to do with the Vmware harddisk configuration. When you are building your machine try to set up the hard disk as Independent and persistent, later when you finish change to non persistent. That way you can do all configuration, restart, etc, but when you power off the VM all the changes are gone and you will have a Clean CallManager, Unity, IPCC, etc

Now I'm starting on Dynamips Part......

fbello / anyone can help PLZ
I have trouble installing IPCC on call manager 4.1
I am trying to install IPCC ver 4.5 and it is giving me an error in the installatin process that it cannot find the call manager while putting the IP adress of the same machine( VMware)
I went and read the documentation for IPCC 4.5 an it says it supported call manager ver 5.X . is that right and is that why it is giving this error or it is something else
should I install IPCC 4.1 and not 4.5 and if so where I can find ver IPCC ver 4.1 all what I can find on cisco is the CRS 4.1 and it is aound 200 Mbytes while the version of IPCC 4.5 that I downloaded from here is 1.6 G why is that difference in size
Also what is the best version to install for the lab exam for the IPCC and the unity

Another question for the Cisco unity what I have is ver 4.1 should I go with the latest unity software or this is good all my concern is the right version for the exam ( I know I read the lab blueprint from cisco but they are confusing when they say any version released 6 months ago}

I didn't install yet the cisco unity is there any special installation thing for the HW memory, hard drive and how it will connect to the other machine(call Manager and IPCC all are on VMware

Really Thanks in advance for whoever helps me

You need to install the IPCC version that is supported by CallManager 4.1.3

my 2 cent

For Unity there is not any special requirement after you follow the installation Guide from cco

Hello All,

I tried to use multiple IP blue, the only problem that all phones are registered with same IP address, I can not locate part of them at BR1 subnet to simulate SRST.

Hi nadoor73 - please find way to run multiple IP blue Phones, This are copied from other website, not my own, so credit to original owner
****************************************************************************
Using multiple IPBlue Phones on one PC

The IPBlue phones are very handy for the vmware/dynamips simulated voice lab. However, the problem is that when you start up a second instance, it defaults to the first MAC address available and the first and second instances start flapping trying to re-register to the call manager using the same MAC address. Here is a quick and 'not so dirty' solution:

The phone basically reads its configuration from the windows registry when started. The trick is to make sure the appropriate MAC address is in the registry (assuming you have 2 or 3 NICs or Virtual vmnet interfaces in case of VMware) before you start the application each time. The settings are stored under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IPblue\ in the registry. Follow the procedure below to create multiple phone 'profiles' first

1. Launch the IPblue phone
2. Choose one of the available MAC addresses.
3. Make sure settings on CCM / CCME is set correctly and verify that the phone registers.
4. I usually also select the Cisco skin for the phone and select 'Mini View Mode' from the File menu, so that the compact view is used, allowing 3 or 4 phones to be displayed simultaneously on my desktop.
5. Run the regedit tool ('Start', 'Run', regedit.exe)
6. Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software and select IPblue'
7. From the 'Registry' menu, choose 'Export Registry File' - Make sure you have the'Selected Branch' option selected - you DON'T even want to think about exporting the whole darn thing - it's humongous.
8. Give it an appropriate name - I usually choose the primary extension - example 1001.reg
9. Go back to the phone configuration and choose another MAC address.
10. Repeat steps 3 to 8 and create the next registry file (example 2001.reg, 3001,reg etc..)

A little bit of theory again.. Now you have a bunch of registry files that has the full configuration for a phone in the way you want it. If these entries are in the right place when the phone starts up, it will appropriately launch the right phone/extension. Double clicking on the registry file from explorer will give you a warning, and will import the content to registry when you accept the warning, and again shows up another annoying message about how it updated the registry. All settings under 'IPBlue' will now be updated from the registry file that you imported.

I usually keep all my phone registry files in the same directory and do the following steps to activate the phones (assuming the CCM configuration is completed for the phones).

* Double click the first registry file to import phone configuration.
* Run IPblue phone and wait until it registers. (Tip: Starting ipblue phone with a '/d' option lets you launch multiple phones - otherwise it will throw an error and bring the active one to the front)
* Double click the second registry file to import second phone configuration.
* Run IPblue phone again from the shortcut and it will launch a second instance, now with the configuration for second phone. Verify registration of the phone..
* and so on.. limited by the number of MAC address/CCM pair.

That's brings another interesting discussion. You CAN re-use the MAC addresses, assuming they are registering to different CCM clusters. For instance, with 2 MAC addresses you can have 4 phones, two registered to CCM and two registered to CCME. Just follow the same procedure as above with the tftp server address pointing to CCME router, and reuse the MAC addresses for your CME phones.

The sound quality is not the greatest at all times, but it does work - I still have my virtual lab on my laptop.

I was able to setup Dynamips on my MAC and VMWare Fusion to run Windows 2000 and install CCM 4.1. Also run VMWARE Fusion in bridge mode to allow it to talk to the dynamips router (3640 with NM-16ESW) this will allow communication over the ethernet port of your MAC
This is my config file. I have to double check the PSTN but I'm sure it works

.NET file for Dynamips - VMWare install is str8 forward
you can find link on this site

Hello Cisco_Godfather,

I have set up the GNS for the routers and CUCM6.

After that I found your post, which is very good to follow.

But, may be other people and you've also noticed that images are missing from your post.

Can you provide the images, as it can help a lot to build the lab.

Thanks in Advance
