I have a problem with my switch 2950. While the switch loading the IOS, it shows { Error loading "flash:/ c2950-i9-mz.121-11r.EA1.bin"
Interrupt within 5 seconds to abort boot process. Boot process failed...}. Then I typed the command boot it shows the same problem.I have a new IOS with me. I wish to install this one. But I do not get the usemode or configuration mode. My friend, I hope you can help me by giving the correct step of installation using tftp or not

Error loading "" Interrupt within 5 seconds to abort boot process. Boot process failed... switch:
I suppose the IOS is either corrupt or unavailable in the flash..
See this Cisco article: h..p://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps607/products_tech_note09186a0080094955.shtml
From Cisco documentation:
At the switch: prompt, enter the flash_init command to initialize the flash file system:
switch: flash_init
Enter the copy xmodem boot loader command to start the transfer.
switch: copy xmodem: flash:image_filename
When the XMODEM request appears, use the appropriate command on the terminal-emulation software to start the transfer and copy the software image into Flash memory.

when it says "Begin the Xmodem or Xmodem-1K transfer now" - In your Hyperterminal session, you need to click on the Transfer drop down menu. Click on Send File and a dialog box will open. Select XModem in the Protocol drop down and browse for the IOS image on your PC. Click send and the IOS image will be sent to the switch.

switch: switch: flash_init Initializing Flash... ...The flash is already initialized. switch: load_helper switch: boot Loading ""...: permission denied Error loading "" Interrupt within 5 seconds to abort boot process. Boot process failed... switch:
then, read the previous post and do that... Let me explain
Step1: At the switch: prompt, enter the flash_init command to initialize the flash file system:
switch: flash_init
Step2: Enter the copy xmodem boot loader command to start the transfer.
switch: copy xmodem: flash:image_filename
Step3: When the XMODEM request appears, "Begin the Xmodem or Xmodem-1K transfer now" - In your Hyperterminal session, you need to click on the Transfer drop down menu. Click on Send File and a dialog box will open. Select XModem in the Protocol drop down and browse for the IOS image on your PC. Click send and the IOS image will be sent to the switch.
Hope this helps

I've had the same problems with my Cisco Catalyst WS-C3524-XL-EN.
I used the same procedure with gcomm in Ubuntu Linux. I actually used a Live CD, and configured my switch.
I got the same error with "
switch: copy xmodem flash:c3500xl-c3h2s-tar.120-5.WC17.bin xmodem: permission denied
Or just an "unknown command -> copy" error.
I just wrote "test" instead of "c3500xl-c3h2s-tar.120-5.WC17.bin" and now it's transfering... Slow... but it seems to be working.
Guess I will have to rename afterwards...
Will update on my progress.
