Hi Friends,

I am in need of your advise. I am working in an IT company they focus mostly on Software Solution provider side but recently started to take care of its own group of companies IT infrastructure. Now we have around 50 branches to manage and I am working here as Network Administrator. Management assure that they are going to develop more by providing more infrastructure service so, we will have more technical advancement. I am promoted as Network Team Leader

At the same time I got another offer from a company they are in Trading and cotracting firm having around 45 locations. My role there is to manage complete infrastructure includes, Networks, Servers and Cisco Voice. I will have technically decision making power too there.

Now i am in confusion to choose one. Both companies offered salary is not much different. I am 32 years old. first company provide only network job and IT company atmosphere but as a team leader i must work under my managers where i have limited decision making power. Second company offer mixed job includes, network, email system, voice & Servers with more decision making power. But less professional atmosphere and job is mainly to run existing infrastructure and suggest new technology necessary for the comapany business model.

I am in between these two. I am in mid career of my profession, and 32 years old. Which one will be more appropriate choice? Your inputs will be valuable for me.

Thanks

what do you really want?? If you ask this question to yourself, then you would get the desired answer.

Money is same at both the places then why do you want to change?? Wait till you get a higher paying one.

Thanks for your reply. By the way, I am a CCNP holder and long time back i did my MCSE too. I am working in Saudi Arabia, here we have sponsorship system. Once we change our Job it is not easy to go for another, so i have choice now. What I am looking is, which job will offer me more opportunities in future. This is what make me confused. As salayr is same at both sides ( I mean Almost, Trading company offer slight higher salary)I am looking which one will boost up my career. I hope different views from all of you guys here so that will help me to reach a conclusion. I think, Role also important, if i work in mixed technology environment will it give more chances in future? Many such questions are around me. Looking for more advises or views.

I'd stay where you are. The other job sounds great to learn but they are going to expect/need you to be up fast if you are the lead and I'd guess you probably are.

So... consider how you will feel if you leave your company where you are secure, take the new job, and for any reason it does not work out that well.

Choose wisely.

I can argue - nothing ventured - nothing gained.

However, if you are not gaining that much in terms of compensation you may be better off staying where you are and improving your current network.

At your Age i would be chasing money more than future Oppurtunities, As Darby the great said, Your new Job may require you to work fast and think fast, And it is providing you approximately the same amount of $$, Then why would you want to get more LOAD and responsibility for few $$??
